TMCnet VoIP Routers Week in Review

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

It was a busy week in the VoIP Routers sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.

Recently, a few useful tips were released that give VoIP service providers some guidance to add more value to their services, according to TMCnet. VoIP providers must distinguish their services from others in the business. Even if you have to spend a little more to improve service, you’ll find it’s worth it, as poor service can bring long-term disastrous effects. Businesses than can essentially find more bang for their buck will undoubtedly flourish. Be the first to offer a new service. Provide unprecedented customer support. And offer competitive costing. Patton is one company that follows some of these tips.

In another story, the Dell'Oro Group said the service provider router market continues to see the downward trend that began in the middle of 2011. As compared to the previous year, it has declined sharply in the Q2 of 2012. Service provider routers used to manage Internet traffic also experienced a year-on-year sales decline in most regions of the world.

Also, while many people regard the phone as more of an emergency tool than anything else, some phones, such as VoIP-500 series from Talk-A-Phone, are specifically meant to be just that. They just got a shot of utility by bringing in OnSSI's Ocularis platform to make them not only voice transmission devices, but also video transmissions to help provide that bit of extra information for those receiving and responding to the call. When a distress call occurs, the VoIP-500 can send what's called a "generic event" over an ASCII output to the OnSSI Ocularis. The Ocularis can then link up with nearby cameras to present a video of what's going on in the immediate area of the call, as well as an event list to log the event and allow for later viewing.

In addition, Red Lion has expanded its portfolio of industrial automation solutions with two new additions to its G3 Kadet series of operator interface panels.

And Grandstream Network’s DP715/710 DECT (News - Alert) Cordless IP Phones recently achieved interoperability certification on Epygi Technologies' Quadro IP PBXs. Grandstream DP715/DP710 Cordless IP Phones is targeted to Epygi's (News - Alert) small- to medium-sized business (SMB) and small office home office (SOHO) customers, offering a range of indoor/outdoor wireless radio coverage, audio quality, affordability, TLS and SRTP security protection and SIP open standards flexibility.
