BSNL, India’s largest Public Sector Undertaking or PSU Telco operator, will be soon launching a tablet PC – IRA ICON – an ultra-mobile and durable tablet for Indian markets in association with WishTel, a manufacturer of tablet PCs, netbooks and mobility solutions.
BSNL (News - Alert), or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, is the largest provider of fixed telephony and fourth largest mobile telephony provider in India. It is also a provider of broadband services and is an Indian state-owned telecommunications company headquartered in New Delhi, India.
Tablet PG IRA ICON features 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Priced at less than $200, the triple play seven inch tablet PC has 800 x 480 pixel capacitive multi-touch screen which runs on Android (News - Alert) 4.0. The device supports calling and delivers voice, video and data services using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and 3G services.
RK Upadhyay, the chairman and managing director of BSNL, said that the tablet has been designed to suit the needs of avid tech-savvy youngsters, business environments, multi-tasking homemakers and the student fraternity alike. He added that the BSNL Value added services like video streaming; mobile TV and various other applications under BSNL LIVE shall be extended to its valued customers in a larger screen at a very affordable price.
The PC IRA ICON is slim and weighs less than half a kilo, not to mention it’s designed to be durable and sustain the mobile environment. It comes bundled with BSNL’s 3G SIM and free 3G data of 2GB for two months. Customers can avail of the 3G data plans of BSNL or the specially-designed tablet plans. It comes with a 4000 mAH battery and can give browsing time of approximately four to five hours to its users. It has built-in microphone and stereo speakers and has an internal storage of 4GB which is expandable to 32 GB- MicroSD.
Milind Shah, the chief executive officer of WishTel said that they continue to offer enhanced technologies that help Android business users experience the performance and productivity offered by tablet PCs. He added that it is tailored to the needs of business users in markets that depend on high performance mobile workforces.
The IRA ICON Triple Play (News - Alert) Tablet PC will be available from early November 2012. It will be available through a national network of value-added resellers and distributors of WishTel and BSNL.
