EB (Elektrobit (News - Alert)) has been selected by the Finnish Defense Force’s Army to supply tactical communication systems as part of a long-term procurement program to support the new network-centric defense model for conducting joint operations.

The agreement entails EB to start pilot delivery of the EB Tough VoIP Field Phones to the Finnish Defense Forces. These phones are capable of offering broadband IP data connectivity and voice services to the field via conventional field wires.

Hannu Pohjola, procurement engineer for the Finnish Army Materiel Command Headquarters, said in a statement, “As procurement this order is special because it's rarely possible to test the products beforehand so extensively in real operating conditions as we have been able to do in this case.”

The EB Tough VoIP communication systems will be deployed in the field, and will also be used by the mechanized artillery and the Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems or MRLS.

“The delivery is an important achievement in our goal to be the preferred partner in the area of tactical communications for the Finnish Defense Forces,” said Mikko Viitaniemi, senior product manager responsible for EB Tough VoIP product family. “It also proves that our products are developed to meet the stringent defense sector requirements.”

EB provides military radio and communication solutions for enabling wireless and wire-line tactical communications, electronic warfare and signals intelligence. The products are designed for extreme military deployments. EB also develops embedded software and hardware solutions that are required in automotive industry and in wireless technologies.

Recently, EB released a new version of the HMI development platform EB GUIDE. This is an integrated software platform which serves the needs of global major carmakers and suppliers in several markets and carlines since 2005.

The new release will help carmakers and suppliers to create multimodal HMIs for a seamless user experience. Also it supports speech, gesture and multi-touch interaction. EB uses a technology demonstrator to showcase how Web-based applications based on HTML5 can be safely and conveniently integrated in embedded automotive HMIs generated with EB GUIDE.

EB will be displaying its defense products and its Tactical Wireless IP Network products at MILCOM 2012 conference, scheduled to take place in Orlando, Florida from October 29th to November 1st, 2012.

In other related VoIP news, Patton (News - Alert) Electronics recently unveiled its revolutionary ‘futurized’ new generation line of IPv6-ready SmartNode SIP-trunking Media Gateways, which will help enterprises, SMBs and carrier-providers seamlessly transition to the next-generation of Internet connection, IPv6. This new series of VoIP media gateways will offer users unmatched scalability and survivability, as well as protect against obsolescence when IPv6 goes global. Boasting richer, more valuable features at a significantly lower cost, Patton’s new generation of SIP-trunking media gateways will prove very advantageous.
