Tackling VoIP TCO Head On With Patton Electronics

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

The demand for low-cost communications drives opportunity creation for VoIP technology, as improvements can be constantly made for optimum efficiency. Vendors in the space offering first-rate VoIP gateways and VoIP routers, for example, work to ensure that in an environment of quality, high-speed broadband connections, crisp data exchange is ensured for making crystal clear voice calls. When advanced VoIP solutions for seamless network communications first came to market, there was some skepticism regarding its value, according to this IT Online report, which claims that for quite some time, VoIP was marketed on the sole basis of its total cost of ownership (TCO), including such things as upfront costs of acquisition/implementation and costs of ongoing running, support and maintenance.

Regarding TCO, Glen Flowers, product marketing manager at Patton (News - Alert) Electronics, suggests asking one key question: Does it play well with others? “A reliable voice network requires seamless interoperability among multiple elements and protocols – not to mention all the different flavors of SIP, depending on which vendor’s implementation is in play. Interoperability problems can create painful and costly delays during deployment, as well as aggravates unhappy surprises during operations,” he explains.

Patton is well-aware of these sorts of issues, where the company once solved a pesky clocking granularity problem that was appearing in ISDN environments that was preventing fax from working with VoIP systems. “At the time it came up, we had the only interop solution on the market,” Flowers says, those solutions being its SmartNode 4961 PRI and SmartNode 4635/9 BRI VoIP AIDs that ensure seamless inter-operation with Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT (News - Alert)) and PBX systems.

High quality solutions have become so readily available and embraced that today, roughly half of all global long-distance is conducted over VoIP connections. At the same time, a majority of modern PBX (News - Alert) systems today are Internet ready, which gives suppliers the redundancy they need to overcome failures and ensure continuous quality performance across all channels. As demand grows, companies such as Patton continue to bring quality VoIP equipment and solutions to shore up these issues to ensure a consistent experience. Building on eight years of award-winning VoIP product leadership, Patton offers what is considered the industry’s most interoperable VoIP platform.

Additionally, the company stands as the first and only manufacturer to produce standalone VoIP gateways that address critical interoperability issues such as delivering business-class VoIP service in ISDN markets without the cost and delay of troubleshooting clock-related failures with the subscriber’s PBX. This allows enterprises to enjoy the cost-reduction and network-consolidation benefits of VoIP without the expense and disruption of replacing their existing DECT PBX phones.Companies that remain hesitant to adopt VoIP technology due to apparent quality concerns or implementation costs are putting themselves at a severe disadvantage when competing for market share. Conversely, companies who have already adopted first-rate VoIP solutions – like those offered by Patton – are enjoying low overhead costs, improved productivity and better market positioning.

Overall, Patton understands the importance of optimization within the enterprise or small business office, ensuring the delivery of quality communications tools that exceed high expectations.
