If your VoIP app needs a boost to its communication quality, Fraunhofer (News - Alert) IIS can help. Its new Full-HD Voice codec, the Enhanced Low Delay AAC (AAC-ELD), can improve the quality of communication on apps for smartphones, tablets or even televisions.
The AAC-ELD codec is supported on both iOS and Android (News - Alert) devices, so app developers and service providers for both can take advantage of it. With it, they can provide VoIP applications with the quality of Full-HD Voice, giving a new and improved communication experience to their end-users.
Professional video conferencing systems and certain video telephony applications already use Fraunhofer’s Full-HD Voice Technology, and now it’s available for app developers. They can access the codec through the Fraunhofer FDK Codec Library in Android from version 4.1 and on, and in iOS since version 4.0 and OSX.
"From mobile phones to TVs, consumers expect the highest audio quality from their entertainment experiences. There is no reason the expectations for VoIP communication should be any different," said Harald Popp, head of Fraunhofer IIS’s (News - Alert) Multimedia Realtime Systems department. "By providing developers direct, native access to the best codecs to deliver Full-HD Voice VoIP apps, consumers can expect the best quality possible."
The AAC-ELD will be showcased at CES (News - Alert) 2013. If one compares the Full-HD Voice that Fraunhofer provides to non-HD applications, they’ll see a vast difference – and now the better option is available. It’s already used in applications like FaceTime (News - Alert), so there’s a good point of comparison.
Application developers who want the best voice quality possible should definitely consider it.
