Entropic Communications Collaborates with Cortina Systems (News - Alert) to Build Broadband Router/Headless Gateway Reference Platform

OEM and service provider can very soon sample the new Entropic/Cortina broadband router and headless gateway reference design which is scheduled to enter the market early next year.

Recently, Entropic Communications and Cortina Systems decided to collaborate to bring high performance customer premise equipment (CPE) including broadband routers and headless gateways, to the market.

The new design will utilise Entropic's MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) 2.0 solution with Cortina's CS7542 scalable digital home multi-service platform, a dual ARM (News - Alert) Cortex -A9 processor architecture with multiple enterprise-class acceleration engines.

The CS7542's acceleration engines promises to cut down on CPU load for Wi-Fi 802.11ac/n performance, freeing up the Cortex-A9 processor to provide value-add services and a future-proofed solution for platform upgrades. Together, this CPE platform creates a powerhouse system to bring next generation data and video services into and throughout the home, with best of breed performance and service to the consumer.

"Service providers require a path to address the constant need to bring higher Internet speeds, better streaming video services and Ultra HD content in and throughout the home," said Dr. Stewart Wu, vice president of Marketing, Cortina Systems, Inc.

Stewart Wu said that by using their CS7542 digital home multi-service platform as a launching pad for the next generation video headless/residential gateway and Entropic's (News - Alert) MoCA 2.0 powerful connectivity solution, they enable service providers a path to monetize the network and ensure high quality data and video distribution within the home.

The new reference design is expected to cater the CPE needs of service providers' while providing higher broadband speeds, newer applications and IP-based video to enhance the user experience.

Al Servati, vice president of Marketing, Connectivity Group at Entropic said "Our joint reference design provides a proven platform with the quickest time-to-market for addressing the needs of service providers to deploy next generation CPE as quickly as possible."

The Entropic/Cortina broadband router and headless gateway reference design is expected to hit the market early next month.

Extending broadband all the way to the home by service providers is also the focus of Patton whose product portfolio of Ethernet extensions solutions and VoIP routers are enabling operators and their customers to take advantage of an end-to-end IP customer experience, and enabling fulfillment in the United States of the FCC’s (News - Alert) goal of ubiquitous broadband.
