Comtech EF Data (News - Alert) Corp., the recognized global player in satellite bandwidth efficiency and link optimization, recently received a contract award valued at $3.1 million from a government systems integrator for DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier powered DMD2050E Satellite Modems.

DMD2050E Satellite Modems are compatible with the largest number of satellite modems in the industry. The deployment of these will help support the U.S. government’s integrated satellite terminal communications.

Officials said that the DMD2050E Satellite Modems will use the award-winning DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression, which is based on the Raytheon Applied Signal (News - Alert) Technology’s patented “Adaptive Cancellation” technology.

DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier helps users achieve spectral efficiencies which otherwise cannot be achieved with traditional links. The technology also enables both transponder bandwidth and power savings.

DMD2050E Satellite Modems offer highly advanced and bandwidth efficient forward error correction.

When the advanced forward error correction and modulation capabilities available in the DMD2050E Satellite Modems are combined with the DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression, maximum state-of-the-art performance is achieved under all conditions.

This combination will allow satellite communications users to minimize required satellite bandwidth and throughput without using additional transponder resources. They will also be able to maximize availability without using additional transponder resources

In a press statement, Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications (News - Alert) Corp, said: “The U.S. government selected our DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression technology based on its unique bandwidth-savings capabilities.” “Utilizing our technology will enable the U.S. government to better leverage their satellite space segment resources.”

Comtech EF Data Corporation’s advanced communication solutions consist of the Advanced VSAT Solutions, Modems, RAN & WAN Optimization, Network & Bandwidth (News - Alert) Management and RF products.

Earlier in January, TMCnet reported that Comtech Telecommunications’ Orlando, Florida-based subsidiary, Comtech Systems (News - Alert), Inc., won $4.4 million contract from the Brazilian Military for an upgrade to its satellite network.
