Apple's iPhone App - 'Line 2' Allows Dual Mode Calling

Toktumi (News - Alert) provides a service that integrates laptops, cellphones, and all other phones into a single unified communications system that helps in effective communication. It has announced that its popular Line 2 iPhone app is available on Apple's (News - Alert) iPad.

Line 2 is the first dual mode calling, VoIP and cellular, app for iPhone for inward and outward calls using one number. VoIP calls are not dropped if a call is received on the regular iPhone (News - Alert) line. Instead it is sent to voicemail.

The app has advanced call handling features like call waiting, call transfer, call conferencing and call hold. Conferencing is possible for up to 20 people , using VoIP. It has a call switching feature between 3G and WiFi (News - Alert).

Reception and quality of calls is superior wherever there is a WiFi or 3G connection. In case the iPad is not connected, the calls are routed to six other phone numbers, so that customers don't miss out on a call.

"I've been using Line2 on the iPad since I got one this Saturday, and it works great. The built in mic and speakers provide a rich, high quality sound that turn the iPad into the perfect speakerphone or conferencing device when running the Line2 app," Peter Sisson (News - Alert), Founder and CEO of Toktumi, said.

International travelers can use Line2's Wi-Fi capabilities to place and receive calls while overseas without incurring any roaming charges. Using Line2, iPad owners can call back home for free wherever they are worldwide.

The service costs just $14.95/month for unlimited US/Canada calling and low international rates, and can be tried free for 30 days before signing up. The Line 2 number can be set up in less than 2 minutes.

Line2 is a $0.99 download in the app store. Although it is lists as an iPhone app, it is compatible with the iPad and iPod as well. Line 2 was scheduled to be available for regular signups from April 12, 2010.
