3Roam Debuts WLS500 Wireless Node for Backhaul Networks

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

3Roam, a provider of microwave solutions for wireless telecom backhaul, said its newly unveiled WLS500 wireless node for operators’ packet backhaul networks is ideally suited for backhaul needs of Internet service providers, WiMAX (News - Alert) operators, the public administration and industry pros.

The solution offers advanced networking capabilities and complete quality of service management for easy integration into a network and an upgrade path to a nodal, dual-modem configuration, for high availability deployments and robust meshed configurations.

Bulgarian Internet services provider LinkPlus has already deployed the WLS500 for carrier-class wireless backhaul. The provider will now have the ability to extend the reach of its network with links covering distances of up to20 kilometers with bandwidths of more than 250 megabits per second.

Bulgaria, which is highly prone to heavy snow and rain, is tough terrain for wireless networks to function properly. Still, WLS500 has reportedly proven its high availability in those tough situations.

LinkPlus has stated that 3Roam was selected after a careful examination of the competitive offers. The company is said it is pleased with the 3Roam product and responsive support they had during the installation.

Jean-Paul Deschamps, president and CEO of 3Roam, said this deployment in a rural area proves that the WLS500 series is a solution of choice for ISPs thanks to its excellent price/performance ratio.

3Roam said its WLS products can be deployed in various topologies, linear, ring and tree configurations but also in a meshed configuration for enhanced resiliency and an optimum use of the overall bandwidth deployed. The WLS products are ready for an open application service layer which includes the capability to develop and deploy triple play services.

The new WLS500 includes six Gigabit Ethernet ports, full switching capabilities with support for VLAN management and advanced Quality of Service. It also can operate at all licensed frequencies from 6 to 38 GHz with high power outdoor units and direct antenna coupling capabilities and enables high bandwidth links with all modulations up to 256 QAM.
