Wearable Tech World Week in Review

I suppose that the summer is officially over in a few days. A friend of mine with three young kids just told me that school starts up again on Thursday. That also means that a lot of companies begin to rev up production to get to get their holiday products ready to go. This seems to have been the week for smartwatch announcements.

We have all heard the rumors and been waiting to see if Apple (News - Alert) would actually produce and deliver on the promise of the iWatch. While the new school year begins next week, the following week might give us Apple’s answer. This is the time of year when Apple announced their new iPhone (News - Alert) models. The scuttlebutt is that Apple will also be announcing something that fits in the world of wearable technology.

Samsung, who probably has more smartwatch models out than any of the other companies, released a new wearable. The new Gear S  will sport a two inch curved display along with a 3G cellular radio, which would eliminate the need to tether to a smartphone.

It is probably fair to say that Motorola (News - Alert) probably turned quite a few heads when it launched the Moto 360 smartwatch. The Android Wear device returned to a more retro look with a basic round design and enhanced it with smart features. It seems that after LG’s first smartwatch, the LG G Watch didn’t make the splash that the company hoped for it went in for a redesign. Enter into the market the LG G Watch R. Wonder what the “R” stands for!

I am all for wearable devices and technology that is designed to save people’s lives. Certainly, the world’s smartest motorcycle helmet is a product that fits into my category. In addition to functioning as a regular motorcycle helmet, a rearview camera acts as your rearview mirror with an unobtrusive yet easily readable display and Bluetooth connectivity to your smartphone. The perfect way to remain safe on the road!

I find it funny (not sure that is the right word) that so many things get broken down into categories such as young and old, or men and women. Apparently the same is happening in the world of wearable technology. Is fashion taking a more prominent position when it comes to creating a wearable device? There are definitely already some products that look more like jewelry and clearly designed for women as opposed to say a fitness wristband, so does that prove the point?

These are just of few of the stories that we have looked at this week. You should read the details of all of these stories, as well as find out what else is happening in the world of wearable technology. Go to Wearable Tech World and see what has been going on.

If you missed this year’s Wearable Tech Expo, this is your opportunity to sign up early for next year’s event. Once again it will take place in New York City, in July 2015. You can view some demos and register now at Wearable Tech Expo.
