GoPro (News - Alert) was founded by surfer and CEO Nick Woodman in 2004 with a simple concept of placing a high quality durable camera on his body as he surfed in order to capture his activities from a new perspective. Needless to say the idea caught on, and now it is one of the most popular devices addressing this particular market.  The camera Woodman created has been strapped on bicycles, skateboards, cars, motorcycles, model airplanes and more as well as individuals jumping from airplanes, diving with sharks and every other imaginable activity. The next logical step of course was to capture the world from a dog’s viewpoint, and that is what the company has done with a harness that can be strapped to your dog.

The GoPro Fetch, is designed to fit small and large dog breeds with a mount that can hold any of the company’s cameras. The harness can be placed on top of the dog’s back to capture over the head shots and under its chest to get images closer to the ground.

Once the camera is strapped to the dog it can start capturing Hi-Def images the company is known for. The dog can be in dry or wet environments, so whether it is running in the park or jumping in the swimming pool, the camera will continue to capture the images.

Although the application of this technology for dogs might seem a bit frivolous at first, the camera can be used for a wide range of applications in which dogs are used by first responders. Rescue dogs or police canine units can deploy the camera to provide valuable images that can be used to save the lives of individuals trapped in dangerous situations or capture footage to asses a quickly developing incident.

The harness is fully adjustable to fit dogs ranging from 15 pounds (7 kilograms) to 120 pounds (54 kilograms). But it could be used on different animals that can have the harness attached to them, so it is only a matter of time before we start seeing videos of other pets and how they view the world; goats, potbellied pigs, Shetland ponies, stay tuned on YouTube (News - Alert) for the possible applications.

“The adaptability and versatility of GoPro cameras make them the perfect device to document life from a dog’s point of view,” said Paul Osborne, GoPro’s senior director of product management. “We designed Fetch to meet the unique needs and usage for pets and can’t wait to see the images and videos that owners will capture and share now that they have a mount specifically for their dog.”
