Upstart venture Phorce has officially launched the first interactive smart bag, the Phorce Pro. With an onboard battery and connection to a smartphone via Bluetooth, the Phorce Pro provides several novel and useful features while functioning well as a comfortable and durable bag. In less than ten seconds it can be transformed into one of three different iterations: briefcase, messenger bag and backpack.
The Phorce Pro can charge up to three devices at a time, including laptops, tablets, smartphones and “thousands of other devices.” With a full battery it can reportedly charge a laptop a single time, a tablet two to six times and a smartphone over ten times before running out of juice. With safety in mind, there is a temperature tracking sensor to prevent overheating and charge/discharge protection circuitry to prevent damage from deep discharging and heavy loads.
Bluetooth connectivity and integrated motion sensors bring the Phorce Pro a couple more functions that depend on coordination with an associated app. The Phorce app lets users check how much power the bag’s battery has left, and accordingly how many more times each device can be charged. Also provided is a “loss prevention” feature, in which case a notification will pop up if the bag is left somewhere unattended and the sensors estimate that it may have been forgotten.
Aside from all of these smart features, the Phorce Pro functions well as a normal bag and can carry more than only devices while keeping everything safe. The fabric is water resistant and the zippers are waterproof, and there is protective padding throughout the bag. Magnetic carrying handles along with shoulder straps made of a high-density foam core mean it’s comfortable too. An expansion zipper allows the bag to almost double in storage capacity.
After a debut at IFA Berlin yesterday, the Phorce Pro is now available for pre-order all around the world and shipments will begin at the end of the month. The bag can be purchased in either red or black and for either Mac or PC.
