Network TV fans who can't get enough of weight loss stories have likely been enamored with “The Biggest Loser” for some time now, watching the brave attempts of hefty people out to change their lives and lifestyles for the better. One of the biggest—and for many, most difficult—parts of such a change is the introduction of more exercise into the system. Fitness tracker tools have given us a great new way to easily track just how much work we're putting in our workouts, and Garmin and Universal Partnerships & Licensing have come together to not only help those on the show, but the rest of us as well with the new “The Biggest Loser”-themed vivofit daily activity tracker.

Set to be available in early October, the devices will get a premiere during the Sept. 25 airing of “The Biggest Loser,” as said devices are put to work giving the contestants on the show a chance to not only set goals, but track progress toward those goals and have said progress interpreted by the show's trainers.

The vivofit should be an excellent fit, so to speak, for the show itself. Not only does it offer better than a year of battery life, it also offers a curved display that's always on and ready to go when the user is. The vivofit also allows for the presentation of a daily goal that's personalized to the use, and in turn, tracks the progress made toward that goal. It can show a variety of other informative bits as well, ranging from the total steps taken, a countdown toward that day's goal, total calories burned or distance traveled, and even has a water rating of five atmospheres, or waterproofing to a depth of 50 meters.

Plus, the vivofit can connect to a variety of other tools as well, working with ANT+ heart rate monitors as well as with mobile devices via Garmin (News - Alert) Connect, a development which allows users to essentially broadcast progress made across social  networks and the like, providing an extra note of motivation in the difficult process of making exercise a habit.

The senior vice president of worldwide sales for Universal Partnerships & Licensing, Cindy Chang, offered up some comment on the release, saying “'The Biggest Loser' vivofit brings together two iconic lifestyle brands. Garmin remains at the forefront in the wearable technology category, and this special 'Biggest Loser' vívofit offers consumers the same motivational tools as the contestants on the show, allowing them to create their own healthy habits and meet fitness goals at home.”

This is likely to prove quite a help for some users. Not only will it likely give the folks on the show a little extra push toward healthiness, so too will it give the users at home a new and valuable wearable technology tool to help drive weight loss ambitions. There's usually no harm in wanting to improve physical fitness and live a healthier lifestyle, so to see the vivofit take advantage of not only the latest in tools but also a popular fitness-related television series to help drive use is a pretty smart idea, and one that should likely be well-received in the end.

The vivofit could be just the thing that some users were needing to make a better push on a healthier lifestyle, and help improve overall health and fitness for users. That's generally a good thing, and hopefully, this new fitness tracker will prove the one that provides the help needed.
