Samsung (News - Alert) described the latest addition to its smartwatch collection, the Gear S, as having a chic, circular design with customizable screen options, changeable straps and several wearable optimized features, including widgets and combined notification boards. At the end of August, Samsung announced that the device would be ready to see the light of day by October. All four major wireless carriers are getting ready to put the Samsung Gear S smartwatch on their shelves.

Smart eyewear can generally be used one of two ways. You can walk down the street taking pictures and videos of everything that you see, or you can use such devices as a productivity tool at the office. In an effort to promote the latter, a wearable tech software company called Augmate has raised funds in order to develop and deploy business apps for smart eyewear.

The healthcare and medical fields have benefited quite a bit through several technological advancements that we have seen in just the last year alone. The Internet of Things has made it easier to monitor patients and wearable devices have already saved more than one life. Stanford University is investigating how devices such as Google (News - Alert) Glass can be used by doctors. Sometimes having information right at your fingertips, or in this case, staring you right in the face can help a doctor make a life or death decision.

Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset designed specifically for video games designed to change the way you think about gaming. It has an incredibly wide field of view, high resolution display and ultra-low latency head tracking, which allows the Rift to provide a truly immersive experience that allows you to step inside your favorite game and explore new worlds like never before. Oculus’s ongoing relationship with Unity will add even more impressive features.

We know that a lot of companies are looking to increase their loyalty programs through the use of smartphone apps. How about we take that a step further? Since smartwatches are seen as the wearable device of choice, at least for the near future, how about apps that work right from your wrist? CardsApp is a company that is looking to go that route.

These are just of few of the stories that we looked at this week. You should read the details of all of these stories, as well as find out what else is happening in the world of wearable technology. Go to Wearable Tech World and see what has been going on.
