The smartwatch market is still in its early stages, and manufacturers are still not 100 percent sure how well this product will be adopted by consumers as a whole. As of now, the level of excitement is niche specific, and the vast majority of people don’t see the benefit of having a smartwatch and a smartphone at the same time. Companies will have to educate the public as to why they need this product to justify the purchase of a device costing in upwards of several hundred dollars. The Samsung (News - Alert) Gear S is the latest product available in the marketplace for consumers, and the major carriers in the U.S. have announced the pricing structure for the watch.

What differentiates the Samsung Gear S is its own 3G connection, which allows the watch to be used as a standalone device with its own SIM card slot, so that wearer can make and respond to phone calls, text messages and email without being tethered to a smartphone.

The Tizen OS powered watch has a large 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 360p. It uses the Qualcomm (News - Alert) MSM8626 Snapdragon dual-core 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a 300mAh battery and IP67 certification for dust and water resistance.

Each carrier has its own pricing structure, and depending who you choose you’ll end up paying more at the end of the contract period.

Sprint (News - Alert) offers the device for $0 down and 24 monthly payments of $16 for a total of $384. It can be added to share packages for $10 a month, but the company announced if the Gear S is added to a Family Share Pack of 20GB or more, it will waive the charge through December 2015. Sprint's plan will end up costing $504 over two years with the waived monthly fee, which is the most expensive option. The Gear S will use Sprint's 3G network, and not its LTE network.

T-Mobile (News - Alert) has started taking preorders for the device and will begin selling it on November 9. Its pricing structure is also available with zero down and 24 payments of $14.58, with full retail price of $349.92. The plan for the Gear S includes unlimited talk and text as well as 500MB of data for $5 per month, bringing its overall total to $469.

On AT&T (News - Alert), the Gear S will cost $199 with a two-year agreement, plus an additional $10 per month on a Mobile Share Plan for a grand total of $439.

Verizon has yet to announce its pricing structure.
