Many of the wearable sensors that we have seen so far have generally been worn around the wrist. This may all be changing very soon thanks to what has been dubbed as the BeBop Wearable Smart Fabric Sensor. This is an ultra-thin sensor that can easily and comfortably fit into a shoe’s insole or embedded on a jacket sleeve. The smart fabric sensor can measure a wide variety of physical qualities and aspects.

It was not long ago that Apple (News - Alert) announced that it would stop offering Fitbit devices on its store shelves. The feeling at the time was that Apple was clearing the way for its own wearable technology products. Analysts may not have been too far off the mark. It seems that Apple and Nike are teaming up. Does this mean that we can expect to see a new wearable tech device in the near future?

It has often been said that to be forewarned is to be forearmed. I take this to mean that if you know what to expect ahead you can avoid a potential problem or disaster. This is something that seems to be especially true for runners. The jarring motion of running can have an effect of various parts of your body. A company in India called ReTiSense is attempting to alleviate this potential problem by creating the Stridalyzer.

Modern technology has made it possible to avoid or be taken out of an uncomfortable situation. GPS devices can give you a heads up on traffic conditions, smart umbrellas can let you know if rain is on the way and a call on your smartphone can be the excuse you need to escape a bad date or reunion with someone you do not really care for. The problem with the latter is that it requires another party at the other end to dial your number. What if you could eliminate that third party? The solution may come to us from that old classic, the Wizard of Oz.

Will the smartwatch replace the smartphone? When you stop and think about everything that you can do with your smartphone, you will quickly come to the realization that for a smartwatch to have all the functionality that you want, you will most likely end up wearing your smartphone on your wrist. I prefer to keep in at my side. At this point we are looking at smartwatches as supporting devices for our phones and replacements. Cogito is a company that seems to have embraced this way of thinking.
