Under Armour first took steps to get into the wearable tech world back in 2013 when it purchased MapMyFitness. Now it appears the firm is getting ready to take its first real steps toward making a splash in the market with the release of its own fitness app thanks to a partnership with HTC (News - Alert). The wearable tech market is only getting that much bigger the further into the 21st century we move. Under Armour needs to get into this world as quickly as possible if it wants to make a real go of it.

If the company isn’t going to launch its own device, it needs to make an app that is actually going to draw people in. Under Armour believes it has found a way to stand out in the crowded field. Called UA Record, the application works on both Android (News - Alert) and iOS devices and displays a daily graph for all of the user’s activity. The application is said to record steps, workout and other activities as well as sleep patterns.

The company says the app will play nicely with wearable technology such as the Jawbone Up, Withings Pulse and Garmin (News - Alert) GPS watches. That doesn’t mean you will absolutely need one of those devices to use the app. If users have the iPhone 5S, 6 or 6 Plus they can leverage the phone as a tracking device all on its own. If you do use the phone as the tracking device, you will have to enter the sleep information individually. Should you do this you’ll get a much bigger picture of your fitness. The application will also work with the Armour39 Wearable sensor, and Under Armour and HTC both say they are going to be working on ways to leverage the app in the very near future.

Since the partnership was just announced, there is no timetable for more support, but both firms said customer support will indeed be very important to the success of the application.
