Wearable Tech with a Twist: Chipp'd Lets Users Share Customized Content

Wearable tech has quickly taken off as a hot market segment for product developers, app makers and end users alike. Typically when we think about wearable tech items we’re thinking fitness monitors to help with our health, or glasses and watches that improve how we consume and attain information. But a whole other market of wearable tech items is also being produced today that take everyday conventions and make them cutting edge. Everything from collars for our pets - to intelligent apparel –and more.

Keeping this idea in mind “Chipp’d” a NYC start-up whose motto is to make human connections more personal while also making sharing fun and exclusive.

Built on this idea is the company’s product lineup of greeting cards with attached video messages and accessory to serve an array of occasions and purposes.

Segmented into categories like Love, Wedding, Baby, Party etc. users pick an occasion and then find a pre-made greeting card or accessory they like and then either upload a secure, personalized video message or add a library of multimedia content for a recipient to unlock. 

I recently had a chance to try out both options and was pretty impressed with its ease and the endless possibilities where this could be used. Not just to share a special moment with a loved one who may be located at a distance, but also in a business setting to offer private access to a multimedia library of information all using a wearable accessory. 

Once I downloaded the app to my iPhone (News - Alert), I was able to scan a QR code and see the available content.

I also tested uploading a video and activating a device. It quickly walked me through steps that ensured security was priority for the content. The easy on screen options make adding elements such as audio, video, photos and text a no-brainier. Creators can customize the content page as well as see who has access to it and can even pause a person’s previous access, at anytime.

To make content even more secure, users can also chose between only having to scan the unique QR code once, or every time to see the content.

The Wearable Tech Conference in New York later this year is sure to bring another packed show floor of presenters. Handing someone a functional accessory like a keychain fob or bracelet that they need only download a secure app and scan a QR code off of – can make the difference between remembering a company amidst the crowd, and not.

Even outside of business use, I started thinking about the Valentine’s Day holiday here in the U.S. and how sweet something like this could be for those in long distance relationships, deployed overseas or away on business, to get a card and instantly be able to share a loving moment with someone close. Sure we can send these messages in other ways – but getting an unexpected delivery with a jewelry item you wear each day or a special hand written card with a note that then unlocks this messaging is unique and goes that extra mile in making connections more personal.
