With the Apple (News - Alert) Watch release date almost upon us, rumors have turned from what people will be able to do with the device and started focusing on just how many will be available when it finally hits store shelves. 
 

According to one report from the Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino company has asked suppliers in Asia to make somewhere in the neighborhood of five or six million during the first quarter of this year. The report goes on to detail just how the production order will be split up. According to the Journal, half of the first quarter order is going to the entry level version of the Apple Watch known as the Apple Watch Sport. 

One third will be dedicated to the mid-tier Apple Watch. The final part of the order is going to the high-end 18-karat gold version called the Apple Watch Edition. The firm is starting out small on purpose but plans to produce more than one million units of this very expensive version in the second quarter of 2015.

Apple believes the gold plated edition will be especially in demand in China, where all of its products are seeing a boom.
 

Even the lowest end, Apple Watch Sport, is getting a hefty price tag (News - Alert) of $349. The pricing for the other models hasn’t been announced yet but the Apple Watch Edition is expected to actually surpass the price of the Mac Pro computer which has a MSRP of more than $4,000. 
 

The unit orders for each kind of Apple Watch is very similar to what the company does with any of its products, especially when it rolls out different versions of the same product. This allows the company to not only gauge where they stand in demand but also build up more demand by selling out early.
