Wearable Tech World Week in Review: Apple, NTT DoCoMo, Advicy Drive

A few years ago companies such as Vuzix were demonstrating how their augmented reality headsets were being used in warehouses and construction sites to make the work flow more efficient with the ability to resolve issues on the spot. As wearable devices move beyond just the fitness tracker wristbands, we will begin to see more devices being accepted into the workforce, or as it is being referred to, bring your own wearable (BYOW).


I don’t know how many people remember the days when there was a family doctor who knew every family member for a long time and was able to treat them from experience. Along with all this familiarity, there was the family doctor making a house call. Those days are long gone and with all the advances in wearables and the Internet of Things can we soon say the same about making an appointment to visit a doctor?

Smartwatches have been on the market for some time now. There are several startup companies as well as established companies such as Samsung who are producing various smartwatch models. Now we have the Apple (News - Alert) Watch which went on sale on April 10, 2015. Air Canada has already adopted the Apple Watch platform by announcing a new mobile app for its flyers.

When I was growing up the way to stay awake behind the wheel was to turn the radio up loud, keep the window open during the winter and the air conditioner on high in the summer. This, of course, rarely worked! This may be an issue that no one has to deal with in the near future thanks to a new device from Advicy Drive.

There is a lot of talk about making sure that, these days kids have plenty of outdoor activities, which involve a lot of running around. The problem is that it is not always easy for the parents to keep up with all that exercise. NTT DoCoMo is trying to help the parents and those who watch the kids with a new smartwatch aimed at children.
