Blackboard, a dealer in enterprise technology, announced that it will provide Smart Mobile Web access for Blackboard (News - Alert) Mobile Central, its campus life and services application and a new native app for Palm WebOS devices.
The Blackboard Mobile Central application gives one’s community on-demand access to vital campus information, when and where they need it. When deployed in an college environment, students, faculty and alumni can use it to connect instantly with anyone on campus; browse the course catalog; stay up-to-date with the latest news, athletics scores and campus events, and access interactive maps, among other things.
The newly launched enhanced mobile web and WebOS versions from the company will help further expand the number of users who can access the Blackboard Mobile Central suite of applications on a growing range of platforms and devices. The new Smart Mobile Web enables institutions to customize their app with school branding and colors while the WebOS app is a native application that conforms to the look and feel of WebOS.
Kayvon Beykpour, vice president of Blackboard Mobile, commented that one of the core facets of their philosophy is to design elegant applications that truly leverage the uniqueness of a platform's user interface paradigms. The HP webOS Blackboard Mobile Central application provides support for webOS users at current and prospective institutions. And with the release of a Smart Mobile Web version, users with smartphones other than the ones they provide native applications for can also enjoy a robust experience through mobile Web.
The Blackboard Mobile Central application is available natively for the iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, BlackBerry (News - Alert) and Palm webOS, as well as in mobile web versions for browser-enabled devices. The new webOS application for Palm devices includes Maps, Courses, Athletics, Directory, Events, News, Library, Videos, Images, Get Help and Links.
