Zayo has an 112,000-mile network in North America and Europe, with extensive metro connectivity to thousands of buildings and data centers. This connectivity provides services to large enterprises, including wireless and wireline carriers, media and content companies, finance, healthcare and many others. With security a top priority for these organizations, Zayo has selected Ciena’s WaveLogic Encryption platform to ensure sensitive in-flight data is always protected.
Individuals and organizations now demand real-time access to their favorite shows and mission critical transactions, and if said transactions are not adequately protected, operators will lose their customers. For Zayo, protecting the information that is being transported in its infrastructure around the world is a critical component of the service it provides. Ciena’s WaveLogic Encryption solution protects the data without affecting application performance.
"Protecting data inside the data center is no longer enough. To help our customers respond to the increase in data and network breaches, we are utilizing Ciena’s WaveLogic Encryption solution to provide additional security without the additional management issues and costs often associated with these types of upgrades," said Dennis Kyle, senior vice president of Strategic Marketing and Alliances at the Zayo Group (News - Alert).
WaveLogic has proven encryption technology that operates on Ciena’s flagship 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, which makes it the industry’s first coherent 100G/200G encryption solution. By leveraging the performance and programmability of Ciena’s WaveLogic 3 Extreme chipset, it can address the infrastructure needs of every type of deployment with an ultra-low latency, protocol-agnostic, wire-speed encryption solution, from metro to long-haul.
WaveLogic has a purpose-built security platform with the highest level of in-flight data protection that offers organizations external third-party certification to ensure that it is implemented with industry-standard algorithms, including a FIPS-certified AES-256 encryption engine and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) algorithms. This includes deploying two distinct, independent sets of keys for authentication and data encryption functions, along with fast encryption key rotation interval down to the second (instead of minutes).
"Progressive service providers like Zayo recognize their customer’s need for a holistic security approach. This new encryption service, based on Ciena technology, will allow Zayo to offer customers a solution that safeguards data from one end of the network to the other," said Jason Phipps vice president and general manager of North America at Ciena.
Zayo will provide this service with a dedicated portal based on Ciena’s MyCryptoTool software so its customers can have a comprehensive view and control of the encryption security parameters that will be implemented to protect their critical data.
