A company’s network is its lifeblood; enabling the big deal that sales is working on, supporting the video conference you just finished and your favorite SaaS (News - Alert) application. It is mission critical for one’s network to be up to the demands digital transformation is introducing to the conversation. Web-scale networking is a powerful weapon firms are utilizing to maintain exceptional performance and for some, new revenue opportunities. And, with the weekend up us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in Web-scale networking: Time for the Week in Review!
I’d be willing to wager that if 100 Americans were asked to provide the first words that come to mind when Amsterdam is mentioned, the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS (News - Alert)-IX) would probably not top the list. However, 2016 was a banner year for AMS-IX, as it reached new highs in terms of number of connected networks using its services, traffic volume, the amount of 100GE ports employed by customers and the sheer capacity it delivered. TMC’s Paula Bernier’s (News - Alert) complete insight and analysis is HERE.
This week, Hudson Fiber Networks announced the completion of its nationwide fiber-optic network. The newly deployed network spans the U.S. through 16 different markets. The upgraded and expanded network offers Gigabit Ethernet, IP connectivity and various wavelength options. TMC’s (News - Alert) Steve Anderson has everything you need to know HERE.
Many likely don’t realize the importance of submarine cables to today’s networks. Undersea networks empower efficient data transport, for instance. And per research, these cables carry nearly 100 percent of global intercontinental electronic communications traffic. I’ll let Laura Stotler’s investigation tell the tale. Find it HERE.
Digital Transformation is taking hold across the spectrum of industry, and clearly its big business, as a recent report from the WEC to generate – are you sitting?—up to $10 trillion over the next 10 years. While the number may have a touch of shock and awe to it, if realized, I would not be surprised in the least. TMC’s Tracey Schelmetic’s complete coverage is HERE.
Remember to stop by early and often for all things Web-scale! See you next week!
