PT Indosat Tbk, a fully integrated telecommunications network and service provider in Indonesia and a global consortium of international satellite communications organizations, announced that it has deployed Altobridge wireless community solution, Altobridge lite-site to bring mobile connectivity to remote communities across Indonesia.
"Bringing mobile connectivity to thousands of unconnected communities in Indonesia is part of our vision to provide products and services, which enhance the quality of life of the communities we operate in,” Steve Hobbs, director and chief technology officer at Indosat (News - Alert) said in a press release.
"We chose the Altobridge (News - Alert) lite-site because it enables us to optimize our capital budget, while, operationally, it minimizes our backhaul costs and, equally important, it is power efficient and ideally suited for solar," Hobbs added.
Altobridge is a provider of GSM solutions for remote communities. The company recently was shortlisted in the category “Best Mobile Technology for Emerging Markets” at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. TMC (News - Alert) reported on this news during end of January.
Altobridge lite-site is designed to enable mobile network operators to extend mobile connectivity to isolated areas at low cost. The solution is a satellite backhauled, solar powered GSM Solution for remote communities. It is designed to meet the needs of 100 to 1,500-size subscriber communities. Moreover, the solution is deployed already amongst previously unconnected communities in West Sulawesi. The low-cost, solar-powered Altobridge solution is believed to bring voice, SMS and mobile data connectivity, for the first time, to communities and enterprises across Indonesia.
"We specialize in delivering a low capital cost and low operational cost wireless network solution for the world's unconnected communities and enterprises. We are delighted to have been chosen by Indosat in this hugely important growth economy," said Aoife Sexton, president of remote community solutions at Altobridge.
