Mirics has launched FlexiTV MSi3113, the second-generation chipset that supports all terrestrial and cable TV standards deployed globally. With the new chipset, users can now receive content on their tablet, notebook and desktop computers wherever there is a broadcast signal. The chipset ensures power consumption, at lower cost, making standard and high-definition broadcast reception accessible to a wider audience.

MSi3113 can be used with Mirics’ FlexiTV processor-efficient software demodulator algorithms. With the MSi003 multi-standard RF tuner chip and the MSi2501 USB bridge chip, MSi3113 is also suitable for all mainstream digital radio standards, including DAB, DAB+, DMB and HD Radio. The chipset can also deliver FM signals.

“The new generation silicon delivers an exceptional price/performance/size combination, extending functionality while reducing footprint and power consumption,” commented Jay Nunez, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at Mirics, in a press release. “The MSi3113 chipset provides tablet and PC manufacturers with a simple route to leveraging the broadcast TV software already built into many modern Windows PCs across the globe.”

Mirics’ new FlexiTV MSi3113 chipset is currently sampling to selected partners. Mirics products will be on display at the CeBIT show in Hannover, Germany, through March 5.

Mirics provides total system solutions for converged wireless connectivity on portable consumer electronic devices such as notebook PCs, media players and cell phones. The company recently announced that its partner, DigiBest Technology, has begun shipping PCTV solutions based on FlexiTV for the reception of digital terrestrial ATSC broadcasts. ATSC is the standard already deployed in the U.S., and is now expanding to Canada and Mexico.

Taiwanese original device manufacturer (ODM) DigiBest has been supplying FlexiTV-based products to manufacturers of branded goods in Japan and Latin America since early 2010.
