Wireless Backahul: BridgeWave Releases PG60C to Help Operators Fulfill '4G Promise'

A provider of high-capacity 4G backhaul and gigabit wireless connectivity solutions, BridgeWave Communications recently launched its PicoHaul backhaul product family and introduced the first product from the PG60C family. With this, BridgeWave (News - Alert) makes its entrance into the world of small-cell (picocell) backhaul of 4G networks.

With customers demanding 4G network speeds for their handsets, operators are faced with the challenge of providing ubiquitous coverage and 4G speeds to users. Operators are looking for cost-effective and easily deployable backhaul connectivity. To this end, the operators are increasingly deploying smaller, lower cost street-level cells. Compared to their traditional 2G/ 3G macro-cell counterparts in the 2G/3G macro-cell models, picocell comes with greater densities and delivers 4G speeds to the data hungry devices in dense urban areas.

PG60C, according to its maker, has been designed to cost-effectively transport data in gigabit rates. As such, the PG60C product is expected to provide high-capacity backhaul of picocell traffic and eliminates the use of traditional “dish” antenna used with other wireless solutions.

In a press release, BridgeWave claimed that its PG60C provides mobile operators with a cost-effective and unobtrusive solution for small cell backhaul.

PG60C will support in-filling network holes between macro base stations that start off from geography, building layout or legacy network planning, explained BridgeWave. According to industry experts, BridgeWave’s PG60C sets the tradition for products that can give operators the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for high-capacity gigabit small cell backhaul.

According to Idan Bar-Sade, senior vice president of engineering and product management for BridgeWave, picocell backhaul technology will allow mobile operators to provide excellent coverage and capacity to users in dense areas and other public spaces. Its low-impact installation does not interfere with a variety of network topologies such as daisy-chaining, mesh, and rings, maintained Bar-Sade.

BridgeWave claimed that its PicoHaul product has already completed a successful, several month-long trial with a North American Tier 1 carrier.

“The PG60C picocell backhaul product was developed for mobile operators looking for an affordable, high-capacity product for small-cell connectivity. BridgeWave is committed to developing products that tackle emerging 4G issues, ultimately providing operators with more tools for ubiquitous coverage. This product leverages our expertise in building high-quality gigabit transmission solutions that are being adopted by carriers world-wide,” said Amir Makleff (News - Alert), CEO of BridgeWave Communications.

BridgeWave emphasized that its PicoHaul products were designed without compromising with aesthetics so that it blends well with dense urban landscapes. Mounted on light poles and sides of buildings, it easily and unobtrusively blends in with the environment, claimed BridgeWave in the press release.

Interested users are invited to visit BridgeWave, booth # 1459 at CTIA Wireless (News - Alert), March 22-24, Orange County Convention Center, for a demonstration of PicoHaul solution.

Recently, BridgeWave received kudos from the industry for its FP80-3000 multi-gigabit wireless solution that provided the crucial network backbone enabling seamless, high-speed video file transfers between Chainsaw, a creative editorial and post-production company, and the 83rd Academy Awards event.
