ViaSat (News - Alert), in association with Andesat S. A., a regional communications provider in the Andean region, announced it has completed the addition of Yonder high-speed Internet coverage over Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Columbia, Ecuador and surrounding areas.

Andesat leases bandwidth on the Intelsat (News - Alert) IS-14 satellite. The company also operates teleport facilities in Santiago where ViaSat has installed a regional gateway. The Yonder service is now operational for maritime and aviation customers in the area. Andesat will also provide data services to mobile service customers in the region.

“Mobility is the name of the game now and, together with ViaSat and KVH (News - Alert), we will play an important role in delivering high-quality mobile broadband in a global network,” said Pablo Rasore, general manager at Andesat, in a statement.

ViaSat operates the Yonder network with partner KVH Industries (News - Alert). The network delivers a typical user experience of 1 to 2 Mbps data to the aircraft, and up to 512 kbps data from the aircraft. This will provide business aircraft passengers with a high-speed, office-in-the-sky experience that is on-par with the latest in home and office IP network applications and services, company officials said.

“We have completed coverage over South America with this latest addition,” said Don Buchman, ViaSat director of Mobile Broadband, in a statement. “All Yonder aviation and maritime customers will immediately benefit from the expanded coverage and the addition keeps us on target to complete the full deployment of our network by the end of 2012.”

The combination of ViaSat airborne high-speed Internet equipment and Yonder data and voice service provides business aircraft passengers with a high-speed, office-in-the-sky experience that is on-par with the latest in home and office IP network applications and services.

ViaSat claims that a growing fleet of over 150 business aircraft, plus 200 military and special mission aircraft connect through the Yonder mobile broadband service network. KVH offers its comparable mini-VSAT service over the same network to commercial shipping customers, private yacht owners, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Recently ViaSat announced that Grupo TVSA of Argentina has selected Edge Access VoIP softswitch communications system to offer triple play services. Grupo TVSA selected the business VoIP system to deliver end-to-end, enhanced satellite VoIP networking for broadband, enterprise managed services, wholesale services, peering, and hosted applications.
