Spectrum (News - Alert) Bridge, a provider of software solutions for improving access to wireless spectrum, announced that it secured $8.8 million in Series B funding for domestic and global commercialization and development efforts.
Spectrum Bridge's (News - Alert) existing investors including True Ventures, Telecommunications Development (TDF (News - Alert)) and Espírito Santo Ventures participated in the Series B funding.
The company will utilize the capital to commercialize its software solutions and services. Spectrum Bridge is trying to tap the emerging global TV white spaces market in a big way. The company will focus on leveraging its leadership position, knowledge and experience in spectrum management solutions for the immediate deployment of commercial products.
“Spectrum scarcity is a global challenge, and Spectrum Bridge has made enormous strides in establishing themselves as the leading authority in licensed and unlicensed spectrum optimization, from wireless networking to spectrum management solutions, including TV White Spaces,” said John Burke, a co-founder of True Ventures, in a statement.
“Spectrum Bridge continues to be at the forefront of this exploding market and we are incredibly excited to be part of this innovative team as they continue to change the way the world's rapidly increasing number of connected devices communicate with each other,” Burke added.
Moreover, as part of its overseas expansion plans, the company appointed Rod Dir as president and CEO. Prior to joining Spectrum Bridge, Dir served as the COO of mobile commerce platform provider Firethorn that was acquired by Qualcomm (News - Alert).

Recently, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC (News - Alert)) selected Spectrum Bridge as TV bands device database administrator.
