This week, Ruckus Wireless (News - Alert) announced the integration of IEEE 802.11u protocol within its Smart WiFi (News
- Alert) system within 12 months.
“With the help of Hotspot 2.0 and 802.11u, the Wi-Fi industry is turning a corner,” said Steve Martin, vice president of engineering for Ruckus Wireless, in a statement. “No longer is Wi-Fi regarded as the ugly stepchild within the mobile network operator community. The realization that Wi-Fi is a complete complement to cellular mobile networks in addressing critical capacity issues is quickly becoming a reality.”
In other Ruckus Wireless news, The Cloud recently tapped the company to upgrade the expansion of its WiFi service. According to the report, The Cloud is offering Ruckus indoor ZoneFlex 7363 dual-band 802.11n access points (APs) to its commercial customers.
“Given the density of users, the increase in smart devices and the sophistication of high bandwidth applications, we've really focused our efforts on how to best improve the WiFi experience for our customers,” said Sami Susiaho, WiFi product manager for The Cloud.

- Alert) made wireless headlines this week as they announced the release of wireless LSI compliant with the TransferJet standard. Sample will start shipping by the end of January 2012 while mass production of the product will start in the second quarter of 2012. The new product enables reliable communication between digital devices which are TransferJet-compliant.
Carrier Ethernet supplier Positron Access announced some news this week that it initiated the trial deployment of its FlexStream 800, which, according to the report, delivers up to 800 Mbps Ethernet over copper at real life service distances.
“With FlexStream 800, we have cemented our leadership in providing the highest bandwidth available on bonded copper. Service providers can now expand their footprint and their range of services offered,” said Claude Brisson, chief operating officer for Positron Access.
FlexStream 800 expands Positron’s Aktino (News - Alert) Ethernet over copper solution, allowing service providers to easily deliver bandwidth over the existing copper infrastructure.
