Mentum Inks Agreement with Intermap to Enhance Wireless Coverage

Mentum (News - Alert), a wireless access and backhaul network planning and optimization company, announced a collaboration agreement with Intermap Technologies Corporation.

This partnership will entail the delivery of the latest height-attributed land-use geodata that addresses the propagation modeling needs of the wireless industry. The telecom-grade product CityScapes HD enhances the accuracy levels of X, Y and Z that enables network operators to manage the large geographical areas covered by wireless networks.

In a release Bernard Breton, chief operating and strategy officer at Mentum said, “With this new geodata product, Mentum can further take advantage of advanced deterministic propagation models like CRC-Predict and the Universal Model to deliver very tangible benefits to operators both in terms of accuracy and reduced operational expenses. The very deterministic nature of CityScapes HD makes it possible for models to be more accurate and more reusable, resulting in reduced dependence on propagation model calibration.”

“This product is made possible because it combines the elevation accuracy of the Intermap NEXTMap product with the propagation expertise of Mentum. We consider it a breakthrough that will be nothing short of the reference in the wireless space for the years to come, similar to our regular CityScapes product, which set the standard 15 years ago,” Breton added.

It was revealed that CityScapes HD is offered at a native resolution of 15m and will be made available immediately in the USA, Western Europe and some parts of Asia.

CityScapes HD includes the height of vegetation and man-made structures effectively in its wireless coverage delivery even for large geographic regions. This was made possible by Mentum’s years of propagation and cartography research which showed that clutter height is an important factor to be taken into consideration for propagation modeling.

Covering metropolitan areas where both man-made structures and vegetation define propagation characteristics, the new solution CityScapes HD complements other Mentum’s CityScapes products besides the Skylines product which takes into consideration core urban and indoor modeling, explained officials.

Todd Oseth, Intermap president and CEO stated, “By combining the highly accurate, sensed elevation values from Intermap’s telco-optimized NEXTMap dataset with Mentum’s expertise in the wireless propagation modeling space, CityScapes HD solves this problem while also representing an exciting new opportunity for land-use data. We look forward to working with the Mentum team as we bring the benefits of this partnership to wireless operators around the world.”
