Qualcomm recently launched their Atheros (News - Alert) AR4100P, a new high performance, low energy 802.11n single-stream Wi-Fi system with an integrated networking stack specifically designed for intelligent home and building markets.
Qualcomm Atheros’ AR4100s support applications hosted by low-resource MCUs that send infrequent data packets over the network and place higher priority on system cost, power consumption, ease of use and fast wake-up times. The product is an enhanced version of the FCC (News - Alert)-certified AR4100, including an integrated IPv4/IPv6 TCP/IP stack modeled to help customers setup machine-to-machine (M2M) communications in the smart home, building and appliance channels.
Through Align technology, Qualcomm (News - Alert) Atheros’ advanced version of the single-stream 802.11n specification, the solution grants long range communication at the lowest possible power consumption, backwards compatible to existing 802.11b/g infrastructures and forward compatible with higher-performance, multi-stream, MIMO–based 802.11n infrastructure.
Notable features of the AR4100 include power saving modes as low as 5 mA, wake-up times as low as 2.2 ms, support for Quad SPI flash for faster wake times, simplified LGA Package with 2- or 4-layer PCB design, near zero RBOM, integrated RF front end, RF shield and clocks and direct connection to a 50-ohm antenna.
“The AR4100P is an exciting development for Qualcomm Atheros,” said Adam Lapede, senior director of product management at Qualcomm Atheros. “This new system-in-package reinforces Qualcomm's continued investment and commitment to leadership in the Internet of Everything and machine-to-machine solutions industries. The AR4100P system-in-package provides a unique set of capabilities that will help expand the growing ecosystem of connected devices.”
Qualcomm Atheros also launched a 802.11ac product ecosystem to provide end-to-end, gigabit-capable Wi-Fi performance and unveiled the first generation of Wi-Fi display-enabled connectivity solutions.
