PEG Bandwidth, a provider of customized, fiber-based backhaul networks, stated that it is going to build a fiber network, manage increasing traffic load and support high-capacity Carrier Ethernet services for 3G and 4G LTE networks by utilizing the OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet switching platform from MRV (News - Alert) Communications.

MRV explained that its OptiSwitch carrier Ethernet is delivered over a resilient fiber network and is supported by its own compact and intelligent OptiSwitch platform that offers complete control to simplify deployment and management while maintaining full interoperability and visibility into customer and provider networks. MRV’s OptiSwitch is stated to be one of the first platforms to fully comply with the Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert) (MEF) Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) initiative, meeting multiple Class-of-Service (CoS), network interconnect and service OAM capability requirements.

With increasing cell traffic and business subscribers looking for new and faster ways to connect their facilities, service providers like PEG, are looking for means to future-proof their network by deploying strong, flexible solutions to support current and future growth. PEG serves over four million people between the communities of Dallas, Wichita Falls, Monroe and Shreveport and is planning to double its fiber network to cater to its increasing cellular traffic requirements and support newer 3G and 4G devices.

For PEG, the OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet switching platform supposedly simplifies the deployment, management and end-to-end quality monitoring of Carrier Ethernet services, allowing the provider to concentrate on the customer and building a better business.

MRV’s OptiSwitch offers common and multi-functional devices for all scenarios up to 10GE and the widest and the most useful hardware-based OAM tools in the industry. It can be deployed for business Ethernet demarcation services, wholesale Ethernet transport services, mobile Ethernet backhaul (2G, 3G and 4G/LTE (News - Alert)) and more.

“The compact yet powerful OptiSwitch enables seamless interoperability and visibility into customer and provider networks, and provides the capability to handle Tier 1 traffic and the reliable foundation needed for PEG to remain confident and focused on building a next-generation network,” acknowledged Chris Pickard, vice president of Engineering and Network Architecture at PEG Bandwidth, in a press release.
