Sierra Wireless (News - Alert) designed and developed the ALEOS embedded intelligence platform to deliver “always-on” and “always aware” connection management, required for today’s mission-critical applications. The company has now released the new ALEOS Application Framework that can help developers quickly and easily build M2M applications over the ALEOS platform.

Sierra Wireless explained that OEMs, solution providers and system integrators can use the new Application Framework to create applications residing in the gateway to bring intelligence to the edge of an M2M solution.

The Framework applies ALEOS embedded intelligence, the industry’s most proven and robust M2M operating system, and provides integration with the AirVantage M2M Cloud Platform to make solutions even easier to deploy and support.

Initially available on the AirLink (News - Alert) GX400 and GX440 gateways, the ALEOS Application Framework reportedly adds new programming capabilities to ALEOS, and is capable of letting developers take advantage of the inherent M2M capabilities of ALEOS.

Developers will also be able to furnish customers with true end-to-end M2M implementations by mixing the new applications developed with the assistance of the ALEOS Application framework with the Sierra Wireless AirVantage M2M Cloud Platform.

Notable features of the ALEOS Application Framework include a Lua coding platform, GPS fix control, SMS send/receive, access to local non-volatile storage, access product I/O, remote application management, Eclipse-based IDE (Koneki), integrated real-time debugging and more.

The new framework is stated to be highly beneficial to companies looking to integrate intelligence and programmability with their new and existing M2M apps.
