KanOkla Networks recently selected the PureWave Quantum 3.65GHz Mobile WiMAX (News - Alert) base stations to help it triple its network capacity. The announcement was made by Moonblink, leading value-added distributor focusing on wireless and video surveillance solutions.
KanOkla Networks is involved in the project to enhance and improve data-hungry applications such as video streaming.
“Our network had reached capacity in some of our markets, and we needed a solution to meet the needs of a new generation of data-hungry customers,” said Justin Mayo, KanOkla’s Network Operations Manager. “The 700 MHz band has excellent propagation characteristics, but the available equipment is simply not designed for high-bandwidth applications like video streaming. With Moonblink’s help, we identified that PureWave’s semi-licensed 3.65GHz solutions were ideal for our network expansion.”
KanOkla has decided to deploy the PureWave Quantum (News - Alert) base stations, based on its capabilities which include superior link budget, optimized cell radius, and capacity to enhance coverage in NLOS conditions. The FCC (News - Alert)-certified PureWave Quantum base stations can operate in the entire 50MHz available within the 3.65GHz band, in addition to operating either with or without access service network gateway (ASN-GW).
The 3.65GHz band provides 50MHz of spectrum, accessible even on a non-exclusive license by most operators. Furthermore, it offers optimized performance with limited interference because of the need for GPS coordinate registration within each deployment site.
Operators also have to coordinate their operations with other operators employing the same band within a particular site.
PureWave Quantum base stations are based on the PureMax Smart Antenna Technology, which comes with multiple, self-calibrating antennas, to deliver premium link budget. This is thanks to the 6x6 MIMO technology that effectively enhances network capacity while breaking complexities of planning.
KanOkla will deploy the base stations in standalone mode to ease the process of deployment while benefiting from reductions in cost.
Fifteen PureWave Quantum base station sectors have already been successfully deployed. The company is expecting to develop a 3.65GHz overlay to the current 700MHz network to expand its capacity.
