Agilent (News - Alert) Technologies, a company that designs and manufactures electronic and bio-analytical measurement instruments and equipment, signed an agreement to acquire AT4 wireless test systems business.

Financial details of the deal are yet to be disclosed.

“Completion of this acquisition is critical to Agilent’s strategy to be the test solution vendor of choice for the world’s leading device suppliers,” Joe DePond, vice president and general manager at Agilent’s Mobile Broadband Operation unit, said in a press release.

“The level of industry investment in wireless and wireless test is unprecedented, and we are thrilled to add this talented team and their technology to further extend the breadth of solutions that we offer. Our customers need cost-effective solutions, extensive and approved test coverage and great support. With today’s announcement we can further help our customers meet their time-to-market challenges,” DePond added.

Agilent’s product portfolio includes industry-leading solutions for conformance and R&D customers working on LTE, Bluetooth and NFC/RFID technologies. The LTE solutions include extensive test coverage for RCT, PCT and RRM, and are validated by the GCF and PTCRB (News - Alert) for both FDD and TDD technologies. Today’s smartphones and tablets typically incorporate Bluetooth and NFC/RFID solutions which are highly complementary.

With this acquisition Agilent Technologies (News - Alert) plans to expand its R&D, marketing and support teams with powerful platform architecture and also aims to contribute a great deal more to the wireless ecosystem.

Agilent touts that in LTE (News - Alert), it has the most versatile functional test solution set on the market, based on the PXT, with a new family of products that provide comprehensive RCT, PCT and RRM test coverage. RCT, PCT and RRM are industry standard test plans that device vendors are required to pass in order to reach certification and commercial release. The GCF and PTCRB play a role in regulating this process. Agilent is an established provider of test solutions in these domains, and with the acquisition of AT4 wireless Test Systems, the company believes it can offer the broadest array of test solutions in the industry.

Agilent also announced the launch of its E6607B EXT wireless communications test set and companion E6617A multiport adapter.
