McWane Inc., a manufacturer of ductile iron pipe, valves, hydrants and fittings, recently acquired a major stake in Synapse Wireless, the creator of the award-winning SNAP Network Operating System.

The move will help Synapse expand its operations and product offerings.

Synapse’s SNAP network operating system is a portable, interoperable, multi-vendor solution for embedding intelligent, wireless communication in devices. SNAP supports a wide range of network standards, radio frequencies and bandwidths, and provides an embedded Python interpreter to run applications while supporting distributed computing via the Internet.

"Synapse's SNAP solution has already been chosen by many important commercial and government applications," said Wade Patterson, president and CEO at Synapse Wireless. "And now, McWane's financial strength and long term vision will give us the stability to develop our products and capabilities even further to meet our customers' needs on a much broader scale than ever before."

According to the terms of the agreement, Synapse Wireless will become a majority owned subsidiary of the McWane Corporation.

"We plan to accelerate and broaden Synapse's product lines through technical development and acquisitions," said Key Foster, senior vice president, McWane Global. "With International Data Corporation's (IDC (News - Alert)) market projections for intelligent systems reaching billions of dollars over the next few years, we intend to position SNAP as a de-facto standard for the rapidly growing M2M market."

Synapse offers wireless modules that have been especially designed for ease of use and to speed up your product design time. Synapse designs modules with great care to ensure the best range possible. In addition to power amps to increase the transmit power we also use receive amps to provide 10 dBm (News - Alert) additional link margin.

"McWane's long successful history comes from multi-generational thinking," said G. Ruffner Page, president of McWane. "We chose Synapse as our entry point into advanced technology because of our closely shared vision for the future, our strong cultural fit and the extremely broad capabilities of the SNAP platform."
