Xirrus has deployed a high-density 802.11n wireless network for Durham County Cricket Club (Durham CCC) at the Emirates Durham International Cricket Ground. The ground will be home to The Ashes in 2013 and is also a popular venue for conferencing and events. Upgrading its wireless capabilities ensures the venue can cater for high capacity events, as well as provide journalists access to high-performance Wi-Fi for rich media file transfers during match games.
Xirrus' XR series Arrays are designed for high capacity usage and enable thousands of concurrent, heavy bandwidth users on the network.
The Durham CCC is also a leading venue for conferencing and banqueting and as such the new wireless infrastructure extends to all halls and meeting rooms. BYOD has become a critical service, with many event guests connecting personal devices to stream video, tweet or download content, the wireless needs to provide a flawless online experience, at any time, for hundreds if not thousands of users. Xirrus' arrays hold up to 16 radios in a single unit (compared to an average of two radios per device with other providers), which means more coverage with 70 percent less cabling and equipment, and fewer access points.
Richard Dowson, Operations Manager at Durham County Cricket Club, said, "Today, sports photographers want to take a picture and send back to their teams whilst still out on the field. They don't want to travel back to a press centre to connect back to the Wi-Fi, or spend minutes waiting for a file to go through. Delays are just not acceptable and so we didn't want to take any chances with our wireless upgrade. Xirrus' reputation for managing high profile, large-scale events was a key factor and we knew we'd be getting a high quality wireless network to meet our needs now and well into the future."
Sean Larner, VP of International at Xirrus, said, "Durham County Cricket Club is a fantastic ground offering great hospitality facilities as well as hosting one of the world's most high profile sporting events in 2013. That the Club chose Xirrus for its ground-wide deployment is a powerful endorsement of our high quality, robust and reliable network design and architecture. Press, photographers and other event attendees will now have a seamless Wi-Fi experience at any time on any Wi-Fi device they choose, from notebooks, to laptops, to smartphones, to cameras."
Recently, Xirrus announced that it has been selected by Tattersalls to deliver high capacity BYOD connectivity at its extensive Park Paddocks complex in Newmarket, England. According to the terms of the agreement, Tattersalls will use Xirrus Wireless Arrays which deliver a level of reliability, performance and security as good as or better than wired.
