Provider of 3G and next-generation mobile technologies, Qualcomm (News - Alert) has announced the addition of two new Snapdragon S4 mobile processors: the MSM8225Q and MSM8625Q.

The Snapdragon family of mobile processors offers an optimal combination of mobile processing performance, powerful multimedia, wireless connectivity and power efficiency that is enabling a new generation of advanced smartphones, tablets and other smart devices, according to company officials.

“Our broad portfolio of Snapdragon S4 mobile processors delivers the optimal balance of features and performance for the high-volume smartphone segment,” said Cristiano Amon, senior vice president and co-president of mobile and computing products at Qualcomm.

He said that by offering both dual-core and quad-core CPU versions of the Snapdragon S4 Play processor, the company is providing its OEM and operating partners a competitive and differentiated platform.

The two new offerings are members of the Snapdragon S4 Play processor tier. Company officials said that they are optimized specifically for a broad range of smartphone users who are looking for faster applications and better user experiences.

Company officials said that the MSM8225Q and MSM8625Q processors incorporate quad-core CPUs. In addition, these two new processors are the upgraded software compatible variants of Snapdragon S4 Play MSM8225 and MSM8625 processors that feature dual-core CPUs and dual SIM support.

Snapdragon S4 Play MSM8625Q features Qualcomm's integrated multimode UMTS/CDMA modem, while the MSM8225Q comes with an integrated UMTS modem. And, Qualcomm Atheros (News - Alert) AR6005 and WCN2243 chips enable these two processors to support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and FM connectivity.

Both processors are expected to be ready for customer sampling by end of 2012 and are expected to be shipping in commercial devices in the first quarter of 2013.

Additionally, the company also announced a single platform, the Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8930, saying that it supports all China operators with UMTS, CDMA and TD-SCDMA. It also intends to release Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD) versions of all three processors.

Earlier in September, Qualcomm announced that its In-Cab Navigation application offerings are now integrated with McLeod’s LoadMaster Dispatch Software.
