By now we’ve all heard the stories of what’s going on in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The storm may indeed be over, but the cleanup is really just beginning, as people desperately try to get back to life as usual.
It turns out that some companies and apartment complexes were more prepared than others, or more than likely some people just managed to avoid the brunt of the damage.
With the amount of outages and the inability to get around all that easily, one resource that is seeing high demand in the states affected by the storm is Wi-Fi Internet access.
When the power is out and people feel isolated, there may not be any more sought after item like information. That is one of the reasons why Wi-Fi is one of the things that is sought after much like gold might have been searched for decades ago. There have been numerous reports of little pockets of people huddling around outlets that actually work so that they can charge their phones and other mobile devices.
Still more people have been spotted getting as close as they can to stores and restaurants that have Internet access.
While restaurants are offering their Wi-Fi to people, cable and Internet companies are also realizing that they can help out. Information is important to people, not just so they can get the latest sports scores, but so they can get information about when other services will be returned and where they should go for help.
In this vein, there are several different organizations that are showing people where they can find free Internet access. The city is banding together to make sure that people who are without power and without Internet can find both so that they can get the information they need.
