Openet (News - Alert) claimed that a tier-one U.S. Carrier deployed its product ecosystem, including the Openet Policy Manager and Openet Real Time Charging, to withstand the expected increase in demand for wireless network during the holidays.
Recent estimates indicated that the latest connected gadgets and devices, including the Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD, are topping most consumers’ holiday lists, inevitably putting wireless networks under enormous stress.
The U.S mobile operator that deployed Openet solutions hopes to leverage the sale of an unprecedented number of new wireless devices by designing various rate plans and network policies that are consistent with customer preferences and the requirements of new devices.
Openet vice president of marketing, Chris Hoover, commented, “Instead of one size fits all service, operators are tailoring their offerings to better suit the needs of the individual customer. With Openet technology, operators can improve subscriber experience and satisfaction by enabling users to select the plan that best suits their preferences. With more choice in services, operators have happier customers and increased [revenue].”
Openet explained that its Policy Manager enables the real-time control of network resource consumption based on almost any variable imaginable: specific user, time of day, network congestion, duration, device, specific content, quality of service, or a combination of these. The company’s Real Time Charging platform reportedly enables network operators to deliver any service, over any packet-based network, to any subscriber and charge by any payment method in real-time, maximizing revenue from advanced IP and content services.
The tier-one operator is said to be working with Openet to keep subscriber experience and satisfaction intact, and is also fine-tuning its services to fully support the impending influx.
