Altobridge (News - Alert) recently announced the first successful commercial deployment of its Data-at-the-Edge (DatE) solution at the radio base station lever. The solution which is now live over a Tier One wireless network in Asia has been developed as an advanced content delivery solution which can help in delivering 40 percent savings in mobile broadband backhaul costs. Furthermore the solution can effectively enhance the Quality of Experience (QoE) and can be seamlessly incorporated into the live network.
In a statement, Mike Fitzgerald, Chief Executive, Altobridge, said, “The Altobridge DatE deployment is showing real evidence that intelligent management and ‘On- loading’ of content at the base station can have the levels of impact on cost reduction and improved QoE that mobile network operators require in order to handle the big data challenge. There is an urgent need for a technology that reduces backhaul costs and improves QoE. Data-at-the-Edge is the solution to these challenges. In addition, it opens-up new revenue generating opportunities for network operators and content providers, through new and innovative business models, such as revenue sharing from pre-positioned rich media content.“
Data-at-the-Edge enables the identification, management, and improvement of data passing between the operator’s core network and the radio base station at the most granular level. This is accomplished via content “on-loading” at the base station, data stream de-duplication, data compression, and Network Interface Protocol Optimization, as well as with other similar data optimization solutions.
Service providers deploying the DatE solution can effectively enhance their end-user experience. The solution offers these benefits to all wireless access points’ right from the most congested, high-capacity urban base stations, to micro-cell rural deployments. Furthermore, the solution can address a number of backhaul challenges as it effectively accelerates deployment of small cells.
Altobridge’s Data-at-the-Edge can easily address both the existing and future requirements of network modernization, and for ensuring greater administration, operational, maintenance, and regulatory control.
