ZyXEL Communications (News - Alert) made a commercial Wi-Fi hotspot upgrade to the NWA1100NCE, its CloudEnabled Business Access Point. ZyXEL is a provider of secure broadband networking, Internet access, connected home and routing products.
Steven Joe (News - Alert), executive vice president of channel business for Americas at ZyXEL said, “With the addition of hotspot functionality, ZyXEL continues to enhance the applications of its cloud-managed Pro Wi-Fi solution, making it easy for solution providers to find new business opportunities with a familiar product.”
Officials explained that the cloud-based hotspot functionality will assist businesses and managed service providers (MSP) in deploying and managing custom Wi-Fi networks for business customers and guests. The solution is cost-effective and reduces the complexity of delivering Wi-Fi access for the hospitality, education, retail and healthcare markets.
The hotspot functionality added to the access point will use CloudCommand, Power Cloud Systems’ cloud-based software platform for networking. CloudCommand offers SMB WLAN networks that feature enterprise-grade Wi-Fi capabilities like configuration, security, management and reporting.
Businesses and MSPs can leverage the hotspot functionality to create single or multi-site hotspot networks cost effectively.
The new hotspot capability serves network administrators and front desk staff as an easy-to-control interface to deliver Internet access according to users, session duration and bandwidth usage. The hotspot functionality also customizes branded login portals and converts any network into a hotspot, without the need for additional service gateways or switches.
It also builds free or revenue-generating service plans designed based on pricing, usage, time of access and bandwidth. Flexible access plans can be offered to different users featuring different hotspot services simultaneously.
Capabilities include a free initial service which can be upgraded with payment, as well as the processing of online credit card payments.
Also ZyXEL will be launching three different subscription levels for its CloudCommand service, added officials, so that customers can pick the cloud service level that suits their needs.
In August 2012, a new series of Web-managed 24- and 48-port 10G switches (XGS1910) and gigabit switches (GS1910) was introduced by ZyXEL Communications.
