Wi-Fi software and service provider Boingo Wireless (News - Alert) today expanded its relationship with NTT DOCOMO, a premier mobile operator in Japan. This expansion will see Boingo provide Wi-Fi roaming and data offload services for NTT (News - Alert) DOCOMO, providing the operator with access to Boingo's global network of more than 600,000 hotspots located in hundreds of airports, thousands of hotels and restaurants and a number of popular metropolitan areas around the globe.

“Our partnership with NTT DOCOMO is a testament to the strength of our global Wi-Fi network and its ability to provide an offload solution for one of the largest mobile carriers in the Asia Pacific region,” Allen Pan, director of Asia Pacific for Boingo Wireless, said in a statement. “As the cost of global data roaming has become an increasing pain point for carriers, our turnkey global Wi-Fi platform will give them a remedy to ease that pain for customers, as well.”

Meanwhile, a separate agreement with NTT DOCOMO also allows Boingo customers and partners to access the network operator's hotspots throughout Japan, numbering over 55,000, in critical areas such as airport lounges, hotels, shopping centers, restaurants and cafes, and transit stations. The operator's hotspot network will also be available to Boingo's other platform service providers. This agreement brings Boingo's Wi-Fi presence to somewhere over 60,000 hotspots.

Boingo Wireless allows its users to access mobile Internet via Boingo Network locations around the world with a single account, simplifying the process of accessing Wi-Fi while on the go.

In November, the company reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2012, with highlights including revenue of $26 million, an increase of 5.4 percent over Q3 2011's $24.7 million.

Meanwhile, in September, Boingo partnered with Google Play to offer Wi-Fi to over 4,000 hotspots throughout the United States. These hotspots, which lasted until September 30, were free to use for Android (News - Alert) devices, as well as Windows and Mac computers.
