National Instruments (News - Alert), a producer of automated test equipment and virtual instrumentation software, continues to invest in the strategic areas of RF research, design and test. The company recently acquired Germany-based Signalion (News - Alert) GmbH.
Signalion will continue to operate as a wholly-owned NI subsidiary to sell and support its products through its direct, distributor and OEM channels.
The acquisition is believed to deliver strong wireless communications talent and technologies to the NI platform, which are critical to NI's goal to continue to drive long-term growth in the communications test industry.
James Truchard, president, chief executive officer and cofounder of National Instruments, highlighted that Signalion has assembled a top team of researchers and developers through its close relationship, with Technische Universitat Dresden working on the latest standards such as LTE (News - Alert), LTE-advanced and even fifth-generation wireless research.
According to Truchard, this expertise, combined with a strong product portfolio, will strengthen NI’s market position while laying the foundation for continued innovation using the NI PXI RF platform and LabVIEW for mobile communications and infrastructure test.
As indicated, Signalion founders, Tim Hentschel and Thorsten Drager, will remain with the company as co-managing directors, and work closely with NI R&D to evolve the capabilities of NI LabVIEW system design software and modular PXI hardware for wireless test applications.
"We at Signalion are excited to join National Instruments. Our significant experience with RF communications complements the NI platform and we look forward to working on products that will broaden the NI product offering," said Hentschel.
Since 1976, National Instruments has equipped engineers and scientists with tools that accelerate productivity, innovation and discovery. Back in April, National Instruments announced NI LabVIEW software- and NI hardware-compatible mobile apps for iPhone (News - Alert), iPad and Android devices, helping engineers integrate the latest mobile technology into their applications.
