Point-of-sale (POS) terminals are increasingly being used by companies these days as they serve as useful alternatives for cash registers. A modern-day POS system provides various useful features, such as the ability to remember customer orders and track them.

They can also connect into other systems to create and monitor inventory.

Many technological advances have been made in this field in the last few years. Recently, however, Aerohive Networks announced that the company’s WLAN as the Wi-Fi infrastructure solution was selected by NEC Infrontia (News - Alert) for its TWINPOS product suite.

With the help of Aerohive’s WLAN product, NEC can enhance the services provided through its POS products.

NEC provides both hardware and software products for point-of-sale solutions, enhancing the dependability of these practices. These products also consume less energy.

Since customers of NEC have more than 100,000 POS terminals, the deployment of Aerohive’s (News - Alert) WLAN product is expected to bring better POS experiences for a vast number of users.

“Aerohive continues to see huge demand from retail customers for our secure, cost-effective, cloud-enabled Wi-Fi architecture,” said Bill Hoppin, vice president of business development, Aerohive Networks (News - Alert). “The NEC Infrontia evaluation was rigorous and extremely thorough, and we are proud to have been chosen to be part of this compelling offering. We look forward to enabling NEC Infrontia POS solutions, as their many thousands of customer sites upgrade to 802.11n.”

Looking to take its business to the cloud, the company also acquired Pareto Networks, a provider of cloud-based networking, in January 2011. Aerohive combined Pareto Networks’ routing facilities into its operating system (HiveOS) with this acquisition.

Pareto Networks has a history of pioneering cloud technology in various fields. Back in 2010, the company released the industry’s first cloud-based router/VPN solution.
