Seagate's (News - Alert) new line of hard drives featured at CES in Las Vegas this week all have one thing in common – simplicity.
The company's newest product, Wireless Plus, is perfect for smartphone and tablet users who find the limited storage restrictions on their devices to be frustrating. Sure, you can go ahead and purchase a 64-gigabyte memory card for your Samsung (News - Alert) Galaxy hardware, but throw a handful of HD movies on there, along with all of your pictures, music and recorded video, and watch the amount of available space plummet.
Up to eight devices at a time can stream content from the Wireless Plus, a 1TB portable bus-powered drive with a built-in battery that can last up to ten continuous hours. The Wireless Plus can connect to an exisisting Internet Wi-Fi network and allow that connection to be shared with any other Wi-Fi device.
The Seagate Wireless Plus works with the updated Seagate Media mobile app, available for both iOS and Android (News - Alert) devices. The app lets users manage their devices and digital content.
Also announced is Seagate's first networked home storage solution, featuring the Seagate Media app. The drive, Seagate Central, delivers automatic backup for the home, along with streaming access to movies, music and photos from networked devices.
Seagate Central supports remote access and provides a one-click option for backing up an entire system.
Now in its third generation, the Seagate solid-state hybrid drive (SSHD) has been upgraded to provide higher performance and greater capacity. Seagate's SSHD, a solid-state combined with spinning platter-based drives, comes in a 2.5-inch design with 8GB of solid-state memory and up to 1TB of storage space.
