The Technology Partnership Feploys Freescale RF Technologies, QorIQ Qonverge Solutions for High-Speed Broadband Service

Freescale Semiconductor’s RF solutions and QorIQ Qonverge BSC9131 base station-on-chip have reportedly been deployed by The Technology Partnership (News - Alert) (TTP) to realize a white space spectrum broadband solution that can offer high-speed broadband service.

White space is license-exempt radio spectrum that exists between licensed TV transmission, and its propagation characteristics make it more suitable for long-range communications – especially in rural locations.

It is also very advantageous in places where providing broadband Internet over cable or optical fiber is not plausible.

Commenting on its RF technologies, Freescale (News - Alert) exclaimed that from general purpose amplifiers, gain blocks and signal control products, to feature-rich low noise amplifiers and high-performance RFICs, it leverages a broad technology of palette-based on III-V technologies and advanced SiGe silicon processes to provide customers with solutions in wireless infrastructure, wireless communications, cellular and many other diverse markets.

Richard Walker, head of wireless for TTP commented, “Enabling communities with affordable, robust broadband service in locations where wired infrastructure is impractical or uneconomical is one of the great challenges for the telecommunications industry over the coming years. White space broadband is significantly faster and lower cost to deploy than optical fiber over long distances in remote areas. The price and power advantages of Freescale’s products will play a significant role in further enhancing the performance and cost efficiencies of our white space solution.”

The QorIQ Qonverge BSC Series and B Series of SoCs deliver the industry’s first comprehensive portfolio of multimode solutions for picocell, femtocell, metrocell and macrocell base stations.

Tareq Bustami, vice president of product management for Freescale’s digital networking business added, “As IP traffic continues to grow exponentially around the world, spectrum has become an increasingly rare and valuable commodity. TTP’s white space solution helps to unlock the value of idle TV band spectrum and deliver affordable broadband to historically underserved markets. Freescale is pleased that the performance and power efficiency of its embedded small cell technologies will play a key role in TTP’s compelling new product.”
