High-speed computing within minimum space consumption is becoming the key requirement of business enterprises across the globe, and the latest innovations are consistently being introduced by technology companies to address this ever growing need.

Extreme Engineering Solutions, Inc. (X-ES (News - Alert)), a provider of single board computers, Input/Output (I/O) boards, power supplies, backplanes, chassis and system-level solutions for embedded computing customers, has introduced a new XMC module named XPort5005, capable of fulfilling various I/O or storage requirements of a platform.

Leveraging the solution will enable system integrators to cut down on the cost and time to market while offering quick support for CAN bus, GPS, IEEE (News - Alert) 1394 or ‘FireWire,’ MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, Solid-State Drives (SSD), AES-256 encryption, GPIO, WLAN or WiMax, Cellular – including both 4G/LTE (News - Alert) and 3G, RS-232 and Bluetooth platforms.

XPort5005 is the first ever XMC product that makes the best out of well-known Mini PCI Express I/O and mSATA storage modules, which makes it a future-ready solution. Further, the device considerably gains from the small form factor of Mini PCI Express and mSATA modules to offer extensive compatibility with two full height (F2/H1) and one half-height (H1) module within a single XMC.

It functions satisfactorily within a wide temperature range, lasting from -40C to +85C for conduction cooled applications, and -40C to +70C for forced air cooled applications.

The design of the XPort5005 is quite strong and reliable for offering trustworthy protection even in adverse conditions, such as in vehicle transportation, rail transportation, military, and aerospace applications.

Mini PCI Express and mSATA modules for a wide range of form factors, catering to the XMC sites, can be accessed through the small form factor of XPort5005. Some of them are 3U VPX and 3U CompactPCI (News - Alert) modules, such as X-ES's XPedite7470, XChange3000 and XPedite5530, and can support a single XPort5005.

Apart from that, users can also integrate two XPort5005s to 6U VPX, 6U VME and 6U CompactPCI modules such as X-ES's XCalibur4440, XCalibur1730 and XCalibur1600.

In March 2009, Extreme Engineering Solutions launched XPedite5170, a feature-rich 3U VPX (VITA 46) solution targeting Freescale Semiconductor's (News - Alert) dual-core MPC8640D processor. The XPedite5170 delivered enhanced PowerPC performance with AltiVec technology and power efficiency for military customers requiring high performance in small form factors.
