YouTube Bringing Slate of New Features in Near Future

YouTube has long been taking flack for being a website that doesn’t seem to listen to its users. The company is attempting to shed that reputation with the release of a new video called the “creator preview.” This video showed a glimpse of some upcoming features YouTube (News - Alert) plans to incorporate, which includes a standalone mobile application, more tools for content producers, and a crowd-funded option that lets people contribute money through YouTube.

YouTube’s most popular feature could be the ability to crowdfund effectively through the site itself. People are plenty familiar with other sites like Kickstarter, but the ability to skip visiting sites like this to donate money could be a big plus. The tailor-made application for content creators is also likely to be a big hit for the select few who frequent the site the most.

YouTube also announced that captions and subtitles will be crowd-sourced for more than 60 languages. That could be important when it comes to drawing in more users. The site claims that more than 80 percent of its users are now coming from outside the United States.

There isn’t a word on when any of these new features are going to be rolled out but it stands to reason they will start showing up very soon. A site like YouTube can’t announce these kinds of changes and then drag their feet on implementing them for very long.

The standalone application is one thing that users might be looking forward to, especially if there are a ton of new features offered up. YouTube has been losing the trust of some of its users ever since it started offering more obvious integration of Google (News - Alert). Releasing features that show the site is a standalone entity is only going to be a positive thing for the company. While waiting for the new features to be officially put in place, check out the YouTube Creator preview video. It offers some more info on the changes to come.
