Xfinity Wi-Fi Hotspots now Available on Boston's Green Line

Comcast (News - Alert) said today the company has activated Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots in the subway platform areas on the MBTA’s Green Line from North Station to Kenmore in Boston. North Station, Haymarket, Park Street, Boylston, Arlington, Copley, Prudential, Symphony, Hynes Convention Center, and Kenmore, as well as dozens of other outdoor station platforms of the Green Line’s various branches are now equipped with high-speed internet access.

"America's oldest subway has now become one of the very first to offer customers high speed Internet access on century-old train platforms," said MBTA general manager Beverly Scott. "With the introduction of Wi-Fi service at Green Line stations, hundreds of thousands of T riders can stay connected preparing for their daily commutes."

While this is exciting and all, unfortunately the service is only available to existing Comcast customers. If you are a Comcast user, connecting is as simple as selecting "xfinitywifi" from the list of available networks on your laptop or mobile device(s), and entering your Comcast ID or email and password. After this initial sign in, you are automatically connected to the network whenever you are in a hotspot location. This makes it easy to always stay connected, reduce 4G or data roaming costs and takes the hassle out of constantly re-connecting.

Xfinity also offers a mobile app to help find hotspots not just in Boston but all over the country. The Xfinity WiFi (News - Alert) App, available on any smartphone, shows you the nearest business and outdoor hotspots in a breeze.

Non-Xfinity Internet customers are welcome to sample the Wi-Fi network but are limited to two, 60-minute complimentary sessions per month. Xfinity hopes this trial will entice metro-riders to update or purchase various packages that would allow access without restrictions.
